04 - 1 small onion, finely chopped

11 - 1 jalapeño, sliced
12 - 2 tbsp pickled jalapeños, sliced
13 - 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
14 - ¼ cup sour cream
15 - ¼ cup guacamole or sliced avocado

# How to Prepare:

01 - Preheat your oven to 400°F for optimal melting.
02 - Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 4–5 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
03 - Add chopped onion and garlic to the beef; sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
04 - Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 additional minute to bloom the spices, then remove from heat.
05 - Arrange half the tortilla chips on a large baking sheet or oven-safe platter. Sprinkle with half the cheese and half the beef mixture. Repeat with remaining chips, cheese, and beef for a double layer.
06 - Bake in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
07 - Remove from oven and immediately top with diced tomato, jalapeños, cilantro, sour cream, and guacamole. Serve while hot and crispy.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The layered technique ensures every single chip gets covered in melted cheese and seasoned beef
  • These come together in just 30 minutes but taste like they took all afternoon to perfect
02 -
  • Building in two layers instead of one giant pile ensures every single chip gets cheesy coverage
  • Adding fresh vegetables after baking prevents them from becoming watery and sad
03 -
  • Grate your own cheese since pre-shredded varieties contain anti-caking agents that prevent smooth melting
  • Spread chips in an even layer rather than mounding them to ensure even heating
